| Sunfast One Boat Overview: The Sunshine Coast Sailing Academy has become known as the premier sailing school on the Sunshine Coast, teaching beginners to advanced sailors in dinghies and yachts, inshore, offshore, and ocean sailing.
The school is both an Australian Yachting Federation (AYF) and the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) recognized Teaching Establishment: we meet & exceed their strict guidelines to conduct RYA & AYF sailing courses. Our yachts, dinghies, instructors and safety requirements meet the highest standards.
The school also now offers professional Yachtmaster Career training courses for those of you who wish to pursue a career as crew or master on certified commercial charter boats or superyachts.
At the Sunshine Coast Sailing Academy we can provide the luxury of a magnificent sailing yacht and a qualified skipper to sail you around your chosen cruising area at your own pace.
Hamilton Island Race Week:
The Sunshine Coast Sailing Academy racing program offers every individual the opportunity to become part of a yacht racing team campaigning in Australia's most famous yacht races, one of which is the Hamilton Island Race week.
Welcoming cocktail party, Opening Fireworks, Moet & Chandon Lunch, Whitehaven Beach day, Mardi Gras Street Parade, Hahn Premium Race Week Presentation Dinner. Be a part of this or just sit back on your yacht and take it easy! And don't forget, we need to go sailing as well! The Hamilton Island Race week is not for the faint hearted. If you're looking for sensational sailing, fantastic fun, enormous egos and a perfect party atmosphere, then this week is for you!
Our Sunfast 37 is highly competitive and chosen to meet the requirements of each race and regatta. The Sunfast 37 provides exhilarating and intense racing. | Yacht Sunfast One Amenities / Features: Established 13 years ago, the Sunshine Coast Sailing Academy is located next to the Mooloolaba Yacht Club on the Mooloolah River, meters from the sea and 100 paces from the best beach in Queensland. MAP
Once a sleepy coastal town, Mooloolaba's great accommodation, fashionable cafes and shops make it a top vacation and leisure spot for locals, Brisbane, out-of state and overseas visitors.
Mooloolaba is also well known as an excellent venue for state, national and international sailing events, as well as other water sports and social activities.
Our location provides sheltered waters for dinghies in the Mooloola River, yachts in the small bay and open ocean sailing in minutes. The Sandy Straits and Fraser Island are just to the north; Moreton Bay, its inland waterways and Gold Coast are just to the south; it's perfect for overnight courses.
We teach sailing to people from 7 to 77 years old, from dinghies to yachts, inshore and offshore, beginner to yachtmaster. All completed courses include certificate and logbook endorsed by the AYF or TYA, recognised nationally or internationally.
Our satisfied customers include area schools, Maroochy council programs and local teams racing programs.
We also offer sailing adventures: 4-day getaways, 8 and 12-day offshore trips for the more experienced yachtsperson, and skippered local yacht cruises for introductions to sailing. |

One of the new breed in ocean racing, with a world record plus a circumnavigation as skipper.
Sailing internationally since the age of 12, John has progressed through the ranks from dinghy sailing through to maxis and has competed in 4 Sydney to Hobart's, the notorious Westcoaster and the ferocious Fastnet. Skipper of the yacht Maiden in "The Hong Kong Challenge" around the world, John placed 4th overall, won legs 1 & 4, appearing on the podium 7 times!
An experienced Open 60 sailor, John was navigator of Magna Data, smashing the previous non-stop around Australia record in less than 44 days!
In 2003 and 2007 John completed in the double-handed Melbourne to Osaka, Japan yacht race, a distance of over 5500 nautical miles, winning the race division in both races and finishing 1st and 2nd respectively over the line!
An accomplished RYA/MCA Ocean Yachtmaster, John is also an RYA Yachtmaster Ocean instructor and examiner and was instrumental in training the crew of the '96-97 BT Global Challenge Around the World Yacht Race.
His experience includes sailing schools, race training, consulting and facilitating corporate training and teambuilding programs with Australian & UK companies. |
